We were eager to explore local flavors, and the hotel's keen connection to the surrounding area introduced us to the culinary gem, El Descanso, located nearby in Poás. I indulged in the classic Gallo pinto for breakfast, a hearty dish that energizes you for a day of exploring, especially with the panoramic views of Poás Volcano just minutes away. The ambiance in the dining area was casual and warm, making each meal a pleasure. On another occasion, I dined on fresh seafood, highlighting the region’s connection to its abundant coastal offerings. What made Altura truly special was also the lovely garden adorned with flowers, creating an inviting space to relax after meals. While not a fine-dining establishment, the simplicity and authenticity of their offerings made for a satisfying culinary journey. This experience, crowned by the hospitable staff, leaves an impression as serene and comforting as the lush beauty of the highlands around Poás.
